Football betting rules at Shamo Bet
This page explains how football bet settlement works at Shamo Bet, including the difference between full time, extra time and a penalty shootout. These football betting rules in Ethiopia are general guidance: the rules displayed for a specific market and the applicable Terms and Conditions should be checked before placing a bet. If general guidance differs from the terms shown for a market, follow the market-specific terms.
Before confirming a selection, check the market name, the period it covers, the match status and any conditions shown on the bet slip. A result that seems clear from the final score may be settled differently if the market covers only a particular period or outcome. Shamo Bet aims to settle football bets according to published market rules and confirmed event information.
Standard settlement time: 90 minutes
For many standard markets, the settlement period is 90 minutes of play plus any stoppage time added by the referee. Added time and stoppage time are part of the first or second half; they are not extra time. Extra time is a separate period played after the regular match when competition rules require it.
Unless the market says otherwise, Match Result (1X2), Double Chance, Total Goals, Handicap and Both Teams to Score markets are generally based on the 90-minute result, including referee-added time. A goal scored in extra time would not normally change the result of a market limited to 90 minutes. Always check the precise market wording, especially if the event is a cup tie or knockout match.
In 90 minutes football betting, “full time” usually means the end of regulation play and its added time. It does not automatically include extra time or a penalty shootout. The market’s stated settlement period takes priority over assumptions based on the final score shown after the whole tie.
When extra time counts
Extra time football betting depends on the market. Extra time is included only when the market rules say it is covered. Wording such as “including extra time” or a qualifying market such as “To Qualify” may indicate a broader settlement period, but the specific terms still determine whether a penalty shootout is included.
For example, a selection on Team A to win the 1X2 market may be settled on the score after 90 minutes, while a selection on Team A to qualify may be decided by the outcome of the tie. Do not treat “Match Result,” “To Qualify,” “Winner of Tie” and “Outright Winner” as interchangeable. Check the market description to see which periods and outcomes apply.
How penalties are settled
A penalty awarded and taken during regular play or extra time is part of that period’s match action. If the market covers that period, the resulting goal may count. A penalty shootout is different: its kicks are used to decide a tie and are not usually added to the match’s total goals or 90-minute result.
- Penalty during the match: treated as a match event, subject to the market’s time period and rules.
- Penalty shootout: normally excluded from 90-minute goals and result markets.
- Qualification or trophy markets: the shootout outcome may determine settlement when the market rules include it.
These penalty shootout betting rules matter most in knockout matches. Check whether a selection concerns the score, the winner of a tie, or the team progressing before confirming it.
Cancelled, postponed and abandoned matches
A cancelled football match bet or postponed football match betting selection may be treated differently depending on the event, market and applicable terms. The settlement period or other conditions can vary, so do not assume that every postponed fixture is handled in the same way. Check the event status and the relevant cancellation rules.
- Cancelled before kick-off: the bet may be void, subject to the applicable rules.
- Postponed before play begins: the selection may remain open or be voided, depending on the rescheduling conditions in the terms.
- Started but abandoned: settlement may depend on whether the market outcome was already determined and on the rules for an incomplete event.
- Resumed or completed later: the applicable event and market rules determine whether the later play is used for settlement.
- Incorrect event details or a later official correction: settlement is handled under the relevant Terms and Conditions and market rules.
A void bet generally means the selection is cancelled and the stake is handled according to the applicable terms. A refund stake is not automatic in every disputed or interrupted-match situation. If a settlement is unclear, keep the bet details and contact customer support for review.
Live football betting settlement
Live football betting rules account for events that can change while a selection is being placed. During play, odds may update, and a market may be suspended while an incident is checked. A goal, red card, VAR review, penalty or developing attack can affect the available price and whether a selection can still be accepted.
A submitted live selection is not necessarily an accepted bet. It may be confirmed after a short delay, offered at changed odds, rejected or left pending while event information is verified. Check the bet slip for the accepted selection, price and status. For current in-play markets, visit Shamo Bet live.
Odds changes and bet confirmation
A football odds change before confirmation can affect whether a selection is accepted and at what price. If odds move after a selection is submitted but before the bet is confirmed, the system may present updated odds or reject the request under the applicable rules. A displayed price should not be treated as final until the bet slip shows an accepted bet at that price.
Before confirming, review the event, market, selection, stake and odds in your bet slip. This is particularly important for live markets, where prices and availability can change quickly. If a bet is rejected, check its status rather than assuming it was placed.
VAR, official data and result corrections
VAR can lead to a goal being confirmed or disallowed, a penalty decision being reviewed, or a card decision being changed. Markets may be suspended while an incident is unresolved. Settlement uses the information and process specified in the relevant market rules; a score shown during play may not be the final official result.
If an official source later corrects event information or a result has already been settled, the handling of that correction is governed by the applicable Terms and Conditions. For a question about a particular bet, provide the event, market and bet reference through Contact Us.
Player, cards and corners markets
Player markets, cards and corners can have settlement conditions that differ from standard result markets. For cards, the rules may specify whether only players on the field count or whether other participants are included. Corner markets may define which officially awarded or taken corners count. Check the specific market rules before placing a bet.
Player selections may be subject to participation requirements. For example, a market may set out what happens if a selected player does not take part. An own goal is not usually credited as a goal by the player who put the ball into their own net, but the applicable market rules determine settlement. Do not assume a player bet is void, won or lost without checking those conditions.
Examples of football bet settlement
- Scenario: The score is 1–1 after 90 minutes, and Team A wins in extra time. Settlement: A 90-minute 1X2 selection on Team A would generally lose, because the market is based on the regulation-time result.
- Scenario: A match is 0–0 after extra time, and Team B wins the shootout. Settlement: A 90-minute Total Goals Over 0.5 selection would generally lose; shootout kicks are not normally counted as match goals.
- Scenario: A fixture is cancelled before kick-off. Settlement: The bet may be void under the applicable cancellation rules; check the event terms for how the stake is handled.
- Scenario: A live selection is submitted during a VAR review. Settlement: It may remain pending, be offered at updated odds or be rejected, depending on the event and acceptance rules.
- Scenario: Team C is selected “To Qualify” and wins a tie on penalties. Settlement: The shootout may determine the selection if the specific qualification market includes it.
These examples describe common distinctions, not a substitute for the terms attached to an individual market.
Responsible football betting
Football betting should be entertainment, not a way to earn money. Only bet what you can afford to lose, and consider using available limits, taking a break or choosing self-exclusion if betting is no longer enjoyable. Support and safer-play information are available through Responsible Gaming. Betting is restricted to adults; review the Age Restriction Policy and do not bet if you are under the legal age.
